Step into my castle

...said the spider to the fly.

Hello and welcome!

(I'm not going to eat you, despite the title.)

This is my place for fanfiction and rants pertaining to the same. I'm very new to this whole livejournal thing, and the page is thus sure to look a bit wonky until I figure out how to use it. Please bear with me... and go check out the fanfiction instead, that's the same as ever.

Oh, yes, and of course:

The Disclaimer: None of the characters featured in my stories are mine. They are all borrowed from J.K. Rowling's Potterverse, and belong to her. Or, if you're reading the stories about pretty boys in bands, they belong to themselves and my assumption that they choose to smooch each other in their spare time is, of course, all clear-sighted conlusions lies.

Bandom fic: Aliens in America

Before joining up for [info]rydenrevival, Ryden was basically my anti-OTP. I'm on good way to being turned. :) There are so many good stories about this pair out there, and the dynamic of them is really growing on me.

Anyway, this is one of my own contributions to the fest. Hope you enjoy! :)

Title: Aliens in America
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2000
Characters: Brendon/Ryan
Summary: When a new student joins one of Brendon's classes at college, he realises immediately that the guy is an alien and starts an investigation to expose him. The new guy, Ryan, is rather confused by the whole affair.

I think the new guy in my Complex Variables course is an alien. )

Gender Equity and Stuff

So I just read a 200-page book in about an hour and then wrote a lengthy review on it in about half that time. That'll teach me to leave assignments until the very last minute.

Anyway, I'm writing because I'm fucking pissed off right now.

BURN!

Wow, I just got so burned in a review left on the first fanfic I ever wrote. (It really sucks.) It's this extremely serious, very long review that just criticises the shit out of that story -- the characterisations, the plot, even the genre specification. It finishes with (I quote):

This story can be improved, and by the time you read this review, I hope
you've learned a thing or two about writing aside from simply putting your
thoughts on paper and moving the characters around like puppets. Take the time
to read over and revise this fanfic.

I feel about two inches right now. :)

Bandom fic: Let Me Paint You a Picture

Panic’s broken up? Who cares? Lalala, I’m happy here in AU country.

Title: Let Me Paint You a Picture
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1200
Characters: Jon, Brendon/Ryan
Summary: Jon works the lights for The Astounding Pete. Brendon and Ryan are part of the stage show. The three of them have hardly ever talked—still, Jon thinks he probably knows their relationship even better than they themselves do.

Brendon's roses have thorns on them today. )

Chicago Whay!

I've realised I'm terrible at using my livejournal. I'll just have to practise.

Nine days now until I hop on a plane with [info]redorchids and speed off to Chicago for FOB and Panic. Oh, and some other dudes called Blink or something. ;) I'm so so so excited right now. Chicago, baby! :D

Also, I'm finally going to go see HP6. Old fandom, woot!

I've spent just about the entirety of my time in bandom wrestling with a long, frustrating Rywalk fic, which has more or less eaten my life. My computer finally did what I couldn't -- made sure it had been too extensively lost to be recovered in this life time. (It crashed, and among other things it lost for me was the entire original coding for my bachelor's degree project. I think it says a lot about what this fandom has done to me that I was still more upset about the loss of the rywalk.)

In any case, I realised eventually that the rywalk fic was only a thinly veiled excuse to whine about my own love life. That has now straightened out and is suddenly working very nicely, which is another reason to let go of the bloody story. What parts I have left is going in the [info]wip_rip now, and good riddance, don't call again, bye bye.

Suddenly I have time and energy to give to my other forgotten stories! Will try my hardest to get these finished. My WIP drawer is starting to get a bit crammed.

This has been your half-yearly update on Fanny's life, also known as "Oh hey, I can use this thing".

Bandom fic: The Truth About Cupcakes & Dogs

One of the first things [info]redorchids (who I can also thank for the title of this) pointed me in the direction of when I fell into this bandom thing was something she called "Starbucks AU".

Of course, then I was stuck...

This is my own contribution to that world, which is basically made of sunshine and win. Hope you enjoy!

Title: The Truth About Cupcakes & Dogs
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1400
Characters: Jon/Brendon
Summary: Today is a good day at work for Jon.

No, I will not get you a cupcake. )

Harry Potter fic: Till Your Frightened Eyes Do Close

So, Springtime Gen is over... it was a really good fest, with a lot of truly fantastic writing.

Now the reveals have been posted and we're allowed to repost, so below is my contribution! It was originally meant for a recipient who dropped out, but I had the luck of having my gift reassigned to someone who really loves Luna. Since the story focuses on her, I'd say that was a very happy coincidence...

Title: Till Your Frightened Eyes Do Close
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: 3700
Summary: Albus Dumbledore once said: "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." For Mr Ollivander, having Luna come join him in captivity was like finding a switch.

Harry Potter fic: Sketches of an Open Window

Reading all the wonderful fic over at [info]springtime_gen has made me fall back in love with the Harry Potter fandom. Thus I've decided to start posting some old fic again, starting with this story about Luna, written some time after the sixth book.

Title: Sketches of an Open Window
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 9000
Summary: When Hogwarts closed down, Luna lost even the pretense of friendship that was offered there. She left for London with no clear plan or reason in mind except that there she was closer to what was happening, closer to news of Hermione, Ronald... and Harry.

Luna was sixteen when Hogwarts closed down. )

Venting, venting -- NOM, why?

Today is not a good day. I've been sort of compulsively looking through ads from the National Organization for Marriage (which is a completely ridiculous name -- how can you claim to be for marriage when you don't let everyone marry?), interviews with Carrie Prejean and responses to the same. It's been making me really sad and I don't know why I couldn't just stop looking. Like scratching an itch, I guess.

I mean, NOM, come on. There's this one thing they say: "Our children will be taught a new way of thinking." (Pause for gasps of shock and horror.) Have you ever heard someone describe "learning a new way of thinking" as something bad before? Ever?

I don't know why it's hit me so hard today, because it's not the first time I've seen NOM's ads, but the way people cheer when Prejean says "marriage should be between a man and a woman" (prefaced by "no offence to anyone, but..." which always seems to be code for "I'm about to say something deeply offensive") upsets me. A lot.

I just feel like whenever I think we're getting somewhere, I'm reminded that we have such a long way to go and it makes me want to bury under my covers and cry and cry and give up on this whole equality thing because honestly? I don't feel like trying today. At all.

Because sometimes you need a break...

Basically, I'm writing this long messy Jon Walker-centric story right now, which is what I ought to be concentrating on. But since the writing process for that fic currently consists of me wringing my hands unhappily and saying “Jon? Honey? Could you, like, react? Or, you know, just... do something? Anything?” in a pathetic little voice, while Jon sits in a corner and shrugs at me, I'm distracted by shinier things.

Like 2000 words of random Peterick silliness, yes please.

So this is a story written to amuse myself and, hopefully, others. Enjoy?

Bandom (FOB) | Pete/Patrick | R | 2000 words

Title:A Living Out Of Hope
Summary: Pete finds himself the unwitting subject of a rather personal bet, and goes on a rampage quest to find the one responsible for it.
A/N: This is set pretty early in the FOB history, I think. 2003-2004. Don't know if that matters at all though, that's just what I was thinking when I wrote it...

OK, so I got this livejournal thing because I wanted somewhere to collect my fics. So a good thing to do would probably be to start posting some of them, yeah? :)

This is a Potterverse fic, centered on Neville. One of the latest fics I've written.

Title: Of Friends and Flowers
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~ 14000 in all
Summary: Two years ago the war ended, which is not to say the battles ended. Neville, having chosen to aid his country by using the best skills he possesses, is working at St. Mungo’s as a Healer and Herbologist, managing the hospital garden and doubling somewhat unexpectedly as potion brewer. He lives a happy and contented life among work mates who see him neither as a clumsy boy nor a freedom fighter, but a gentle and pleasant young man and a trusty friend.

The arrival of an old school mate is about to turn his world on its head.

Yes. It's true. I've joined The Dark Side.

Um, yeah... so I never thought I'd actually get into bandom, let alone write it. [info]redorchids has been trying her best ("It's sunshine and puppies, Fanny! And look at the pretty boys in their pretty eye liner!") -- but somehow, it hasn't hit the spot yet. (Partly because I'm too embarrassed. A lot of bandom tends to involve a lot of smut, and my reaction to smut is to clap my hands over my eyes.)

Yes, this was true until I was on my way home from her place recently, and BAM! Inspiration hit me. I really had no choice in the matter.

So this is my first ever bandom fic (Fall Out Boy, to be specific)! Since I'm not well into the 'verse, I'm bound to mess up with the "canon" -- I have no idea of who the boys are dating in real life, for example, and little things like that. But hey, a story is a story is a story, yeah?

Without further ado, here is the story (and thanks to [info]cynicsandsaints for the feedback on the first draft!):

Title: Sunday Morning, 3 AM
Summary: Damn Joe and his tequila! Alcohol makes Patrick do lots of stupid things he doesn't want to (and some things he does).
Length: 3500
Rating: R, for language

It had been a rather nice kiss, was the verdict. )

...and [info]redorchids, this is all for you. Hugs. <3
